Cobra is the type of guy that always seems to be on edge and is very paranoid. He is very brave but also very reckless when it comes to his actions, and he tends to not really care very much about his own safety. He doesn't have much of a sense of humor so sarcasm and jokes usually fall flat on him, and while he does not get along easily with strangers, he does have a desperate instinct to please. It is this quality that made him vulnerable when he was young and in the care of the Venom Assassins, but it is also this trait that let him trust Arrow, his current mentor.
[Created January 2013]
Cobra was taken from his parents at such a young age that neither his ears nor his eyes had fully opened yet. Believed to be a potential asset to their team, his kidnappers recruited the young pup as one of their own personal assassins. He was trained with the use of guns since he could even walk upright, and his ‘captors’ brainwashed him, feeding him lies of how his family had died long ago and abandoned him, how he was born to be a killer, and how the whole world was out to destroy him and the ‘happiness’ he had now.
He dutifully listened and adhered to these lies until he grew to his teens. This was when – as most teenagers do – he began to become curious about himself and his heritage, despite what he had been told all his puphood. After sneaky research in-between ‘missions’, Cobra found something that shocked him to the marrow of his bones. His mother was… alive??
Suddenly he felt angry. Betrayed. Vengeful. He arranged a meeting with his mother behind their backs, and upon seeing her face, he felt… blissfully happy. She recognized him immediately and they had a heart wrenching and joyous reunion. They caught up for what seemed like hours, and this was his fatal mistake. His team soon found out what the kelpie was up to, vowing to punish him when he returned, for the teenager had been quick to cover his tracks.
Upon coming back to their hideout, Cobra thought he had not been discovered. He didn’t find out he was wrong until it was too late – he was knocked out upon his arrival, and when he awoke, it was to a whole new world of pain. His entire body was soaked with blood and drenched with sweat. They tortured him for the information of his mother’s whereabouts, and although he didn’t wish to give in, he had been raised to survive no matter what the costs… and his mother was nearly a complete stranger.
His survival instinct kicked in just before he was about to be handed to the doors of death. He spluttered out his mother’s last known whereabouts. This was all his team needed, and they swiftly knocked him out to begin his ‘real punishment’. While he was out, the team implanted a specifically engineered virus into the teenage canine’s system, designed to allow control of his mind whenever they wished.
Cobra had no idea of this. All he knew was that when he awoke near the entrance of their base, he was alone and had a throbbing headache. His body threatened to collapse on him from the torture he had endured, but he forced himself to endure further until he found his mother again in an attempt to warn her. As soon as he saw her face, however, his smile vanished, transforming into a snarl. Cobra’s team stood nearby, controlling his every action with the virus within his blood. They forced him to kill his own mother, and when Cobra was released from their control, he was broken. He couldn’t move, couldn’t speak, and all but lost it right then and there.
His team had taught him his lesson, but in doing so they only made him not just a living wreck but also a vengeful spirit, bent on escaping them once and for all in order to tear them down. The virus quickly began to mutate on its own, an effect Cobra’s team never meant to occur, and it turned into a disaster later on. Cobra managed to escape after killing one of his new enemies, but this murder and his treachery never was forgotten by the assassins. They went after him wherever he went, slow to follow until news appeared that a murderous dog had lost control and killed dozens in a rampage.
Months later found Cobra above the body of a friend of a very mysterious yet powerful vigilante. This vigilante went by the name ‘Arrow’, and it wasn’t long before Cobra was found by the trained archer. Long since his escape from his team, Cobra had refused to use guns because of his mother’s death. That didn’t mean he still wasn’t trained with them, but he was often too out of control to use them anyways.
The two fought immediately upon the confirmation that Cobra had indeed been Arrow’s friend’s murderer, but half-way through the battle, Cobra suddenly stopped and looked horrified at what he had been doing. His eyes changed from the color of his infected blood to the brackish-blue he had been born with, and it was then that Arrow realized this kid didn’t mean to harm anyone… he needed help.
From then on, Cobra went under Arrow’s wing. Arrow has been teaching him to use bows and arrows rather than the guns he could tell the canine was used to. Cobra even had a new jacket to carry a spare gun and his new arrows. It’s been an extremely slow process, but Arrow’s apprentice has been getting the hang of archery steadily each day. The two bond more than each would care to admit, but the only thing wrong with this picture is… Cobra is still being hunted down by the enemies of his past, and himself for that matter.
